A FREE “Living for the Future Home Expo and Community Summit” at Tweed Heads this Saturday will showcase a wealth of expert advice and special offers to promote sustainable living, with the chance to win a two-kilowatt home solar system worth $8800.
The expo, being staged by Tweed Shire Council from 10.30am to 2.30pm (NSW time), will bring together nearly 30 local stallholders at the Tweed Heads Civic Centre, offering a range of sustainability solutions, free home assessments and consultations and discounts for patrons on the day.
Council’s Sustainability Program Leader, Debbie Firestone, said the expo was an opportunity for home owners and renters alike to learn how to make their homes and lifestyles more environmentally sustainable.
“Local companies have offered some very generous offers and discounts for visitors to the expo, like a free energy analysis for your pool, free home ventilation and LED lighting assessments and a 20 per cent discount on landscape architecture services commissioned on the day.
“Whether you’re looking to save energy or water, reduce your household waste or create more liveable spaces, there’s never been a better time to get the specific advice you need to improve the efficiency of your home,” Ms Firestone said.
The dynamic program features local experts from across the urban design, architecture, organic food and green energy fields, who will lead conversations on sustainable community design, sustainable home design and renovation and sustainable living.
The keynote address will be delivered by former Gold Coast City Council and Queensland Government architect Philip Follent, who will explore the concept of “sustainable places”, discussing universal design and social sustainability as they apply to communities, households and individuals.
Community members are invited to share their own ideas about how to improve efficiency in the home and increase the vibrancy of Tweed communities, both on the day and via the Your Say Tweed website.
Council will use this feedback to help shape policies that promote sustainable design and community planning in the Tweed.
