Great sights under lights

Tweed Tennis by Peter Luc

WHAT a fantastic start to the Junior Summer Competitions.
On Friday night, the new Ray White-Banora Point Junior Premier League got underway at Tweed Heads Tennis Club. With all 12 courts lit up, it provided the setting for some great tennis.
We received plenty of positive comments from players and parents about the new format, so it makes for a spectacular season of top-quality junior tennis.
On Saturday morning, the Junior Fixtures divisions one through six got underway with 44 teams from seven clubs around the Tweed Shire competing. It’s wonderful to see all courts at all seven clubs being used throughout the whole morning.
All club coaches reported the first round went really well and a big thanks to the team supervisors and parents for getting the first round underway so smoothly.
The new division six provided some close tennis with fun and fair play enjoyed by the division six juniors. There were also some pretty proud parents from around the district watching their kids play in their first tennis comp.
A little birdy told me… “if you don’t want to wear your tennis shoes on your way to the match, make sure you’ve got them in the car!”
On the tournament scene, three juniors went up to the Solinco Eastside Classic in Brisbane.
Louis Clark, 14, (Sonic) won his first Open Junior Title in Under-14 Boys. Louis has continued his great form after his title win at the NE/NW NSW Champion of Champions event in August.
Brody Luc, 13, (Kirra) made it to the Under-14 Boy’s quarter finals, losing to Louis, so it was a solid effort.
Flyn Schieb (Sonic) also made the Under-12 Boy’s quarter finals, playing his best tennis.
