Museum milestone approaches

Construction and designs for the expanded Tweed River Regional Museum at Murwillumbah are approaching significant milestones this month.
Contractors will begin construction of a large retaining wall around the site during the next two weeks, Council’s Museum Director, Judy Kean, said.
“This follows demolition of part of the existing building and clearing of vegetation from the site during September,” she said.
“In addition, project architect Paul Berkemeier and a team of expert sub-consultants will complete a detailed design of the building additions during October.”
Construction of the new building is scheduled to begin before Christmas.
“Thanks to the consistent hard work of museum volunteers and staff since March this year, things are on track to have all collection material safely documented, packed and in storage by the time construction work begins,” Ms Kean said.
“Object number 5000, crockery from the Court House Hotel in Murwillumbah, was photographed and packed during October.”
Further information about the museum expansion and cataloguing the collection is available on Council’s website at www.tweed.nsw.gov.au.
