Lantern parade lights the way for the River Festival

The week-long Tweed Shire run 10th annual River Festival ended with a bang (literally) on Saturday night when a crowd of more than 8000 turned up for the annual lantern parade and fireworks.
“It was very very successful, our biggest crowd ever,” organiser Jane Lofthouse said.
“Everyone was out enjoying the new improved Jack Evans boatharbour.”
She said the crowds weren’t just confined to watching with more than 300 Tweed residents taking part in the lantern parade.
While several schools took part in lantern making through the week, 50 were kept back for a lantern-making stand on the day with large crowds lining up to take part.
“We might have to look at that for next year.”
As well as the lantern parade and fireworks, the fun day included plenty of free performances from local performers and food and beverage stands. Jane said the council information tent was also popular on the day.
