TWEED Council is set to prepare an updated public toilet strategy and review the existing public toilet design principles.
Deputy Mayor Cr Michael Armstrong led the charge to improve Tweed’s public amenities at last week’s meeting.
“There is a high number of public toilets right across the Tweed Shire and it is important that we ensure that these are of a consistent quality, meet the needs of all users, and reduce the environmental impact of these facilities,” he said.
“The reality is that many of our public facilities are not up to scratch and
there is a real opportunity to consider significant improvements to other amenities.
“As a community we have an obligation to ensure that our public amenities and facilities can be used by all residents and by any visitor to our shire.
“As councillors we have a duty to ensure that the services and facilities
that the Tweed Shire Council provide are able to meet the current and
future needs of our community.
“The preparation of a strategy to review our public amenities and facilities, and to review existing design standards to ensure that these facilities meet current and future needs are important first steps,” Deputy Mayor Armstrong said.
The Deputy Mayor’s motion for council to prepare an updated public toilet strategy and review the existing public toilet design principles was
carried.
