KINGSCLIFF Public School’s Senior Girl’s netball team have narrowly missed making it to the finals of the NSW State Netball carnival in Sydney, finishing 16th overall in the State.
The school made it all the way to round six of the recent PSSA netball competition.
Along the way they had convincing wins over Cudgen, Terranora, Centaur, Pottsville and Byron Bay to earn a spot in the North Coast final.
They went through to play Yamba on Tuesday 3 September with the winner of the game earning a spot in the NSW PSSA State Netball Carnival, which is to be held at the Anne Clark Centre, Auburn (Sydney).
However it was Yamba’s day with the more southern school winning 25-12 in a hard, fast-paced game.
“We began our game against Yamba at a very hectic pace and that intensity was then needed for the whole game,” teacher Tracey Aldridge said.
“Rylee Burns and Chloe Thurgate were standouts against Yamba, although our whole team did give a 100 per cent effort. After a hard, fast paced game we eventually went down 25-12 to Yamba.
“It was a great action packed game and we congratulate Yamba on their win and wish them well down in Sydney.
“Kingscliff Public School has been a fantastic group of young ladies to coach in netball and they committed themselves wholeheartedly to all training sessions and every single game that they participated in. They were very fine sportswomen.
“A very special mention must also go to Mrs Sheryl Burns who acted as coach of our team. Sheryl’s knowledge, guidance and nurturing of our team ensured we progressed through to a very respectable 16th in the state.
“Our team would also like to thank our principal Mr Houlahan for his support, and all parents who provided transport as well as a very vocal cheer squad for all of our games.
“The 2013 Kingscliff Public School netball team, have had a fantastic year and we thank everyone involved for all of their support and encouragement of our team.
“We are now looking forward to next year.”
This year’s team was Rylee Burns, Sofie Boyd, Georgie Thompson, Zoe Jackson, Caitie Baker, Sara Dann, Amy Cooper, Danni Henwood, Chloe Thurgate and Brianna Graham.
