Ready, steady … eat

If you haven’t heard already, Kingscliff TAFE, will be taking part in a Ready, Steady, Cook challenge as part of the third annual Tweed Foodie Fest on Friday 29 November.
Local chefs will team up with local personalities to compete head to head.
Two of the chefs are past TAFE students Teri Jorgensen, named finalist in Apprentice of the Year 2012, who now works at Conrad Jupiter’s, and Lily Newton, who won the 2012 Peter Howard Hospitality Training Culinary Scholarship, who now is head chef at Summergrove Estate.
The pair will be matched up with local identities Michael Zuschke – Barking Toad, Toni Zuschke – Murwillumbah Chamber of Commerce, Dennis Eyre – Kingscliff and District Chamber of Commerce and Barry Longland – Tweed Shire Council mayor, as helpers in the kitchen for a Ready, Steady, Cook challenge making a main and a dessert.
These dishes will bought out for the judges, made up from local businesses people and media, to eat and then judge. A judging sheet will be made available in the centre of the table.
Food service will begin at noon, however judges and the general public can arrive from about 11am (judges will do a kitchen walk through to see how the chefs and helpers are going.)
This event will be ‘open to the public’ from around the same time, as the show will be require an audience, so don’t forget to ask your family and friends to join you on the day. Morning tea will be available for a small cost for the audience.The TAFE will also hold a mini-career expo, with some of the different departments in TAFE, such as Hairdressing and Beauty with the renowned make-up artist Elisa Stefanovic-Pointon from the very talented Stefanovic family.
Elisa and her students will display some of their creativeness with a make-up display. Students wil rove through the expo dressed up while there will be displays from Hairdressing as well.
Creative Industries and IT will display their works on laptop to advertise their creative industries event opening that night, the Hospitality, Tourism, Events and Aviation department will have a display of food, and room set up for the event, Automotive will showcase their smart car.
