Fishing on the Tweed with David Solano
WELL what a weekend it was with three big storms, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
I had the good fortune of being on the water early Saturday morning when one of them hit … by good fortune, I mean the rain seemed to stir up the bite and make the fish a little crazy.
I noticed after the heavy rain stopped three boats heading for the car wrecks chasing jacks, I think. I’ve been having so much fun on the surface that I haven’t tried for jacks yet.
I tried a new surface lure that I thought might be too big for the Tweed, it’s called a “Dog ex Jnr” made by Megabass – these lures used to cost around the $40 mark but recently the prices have dropped and now they are around the $25 mark.
I’ve found after using all different colors that the clear with a little color seems to work the best.
Megabass are a top-quality lure which is made in Japan hence the dearer price tag but well worth it in my opinion.
Speaking of tackle, the iconic fishing shop “Anglers Warehouse” has moved to 1/64 Ourimbah Road, Tweed Heads.
The staff at Anglers will show you all the surface lures I use and what rod and reel combo will best work with these light lures, there’s a combo to suit all budgets.
Popper fishing with light gear is a whole different sport.
