MURWILLUMBAH has won its first game of the Tweed District Junior Cricket under-12 competition defeating Pottsville thanks for a 96-run last-wicket partnership between Kaitlyn Woods and Cameron Evans.
Pottsville started the day well and were assisted with sensational bowling from Daniel Acret with 6/6 to have Murwillumbah at 9/133 before a 96-run last wicket partnership between Kaitlyn (who was playing her first game) and Cameron helped them reach 229 in the 48th over.
Chasing a mammoth target, Pottsville came up short – all out for 216.
A close game which was anyone’s game until the very end. Special mention to Josh Cameron (26) Zac Ryan (14) and William Stone (13) all achieving their highest scores for the season.
Meanwhile Cudgen Green are now the only unbeaten team following their win over club stable-mates Cudgen Gold.
Cudgen Green continued their innings from last week reaching a respectable total of 166, setting Gold 59 for victory from Gold’s total last week of 108. It was close to the end, however Gold could only manage a total of 133 in reply.
The ladder at this point in the competition sees Cudgen Green well out in front of Murwillumbah, Pottsville and Cudgen Gold
Pottsville has come home in a thriller to secure a two-run victory over Lennox Head in the under-14 Ballina District Competition game at the weekend.
With Pottsville looking for quick wickets, Lennox Head continued their innings adding a further 29 runs for the last wicket.
Beau Kelly, Bailey Engler, Lachlan Wylie and Angus Bourne sharing the wickets and giving Pottsville a target of 120 runs for victory.
After a short rain delay Pottsville started well in the wet conditions with Bailey Engler 12 and Tim Spencer 12 helping Pottsville to 5/102 at drinks. They lost several quick wickets straight after the break and still needed eight runs with one wicket in hand. In the end patient batting by Beau Kelly and Angus Bourne saw Pottsville home securing a two-run victory.
In the other game, Murwillumbah went down by 10 runs to Bangalow.
The ladder at this point in the competition has Pottsville in second place with Murwillumbah in eighth

Mullum/Murwillumbah
Mullum/Murbah defeated Lennox Head in their under-16 Ballina District Cricket Competition clash.
Mullum/Murbah travelled to Lennox Head to play the second day on a high from day one when they had Lennox at 4/9.
Mullum/Murbah needed just six wickets for victory and Lennox needing a total of 169. The visitors started well with a couple of quick wickets before Josh Haugh led the charge back.
Sensational bowling from Tom McMahon who ended his eight overs with figures of 7/10 ensured that Mullum/Murbah came home with the victory.
Byron Bay took home the first innings point in their clash with Cudgen after the second day of play was washed out.
The ladder at this point in the competition sees Mullum/Murbah in joint first and Cudgen in joint second place.
