Tweed Coast residents are encouraged to come along to a free Wills Day in Tweed Heads today, Thursday, February 21.
The special event, organised by NSW Trustee & Guardian, will have expert staff on hand for people to make or update their Will.
If you don’t have a Will, you’re not alone – a recent Newspoll* survey revealed that 43 per cent of the adult population in NSW does not have a Will. However, writing a Will is something every Australian aged 18 or over should do.
If the unthinkable happens and you die without a Will, your loved ones have no choice over who gets what, regardless of what you may have told them during your lifetime.
This means that friends, family members, even partners and children may not inherit in the manner you assume they will.
If you have a professionally drafted Will you can set out your wishes exactly on who will inherit your assets and belongings.
It is also important for people to update their Will every time their life circumstances change, such as when they buy a house, have children or grandchildren, get married or divorced, or start a business.
“During the Wills Day, our experienced staff will be available to prepare a legally valid Will which reflects your current circumstances. Having your Will written by an independent and impartial expert can help avoid confusion and conflict among loved ones regarding your wishes and can also help future-proof your family and friends from potentially stressful and costly legal disputes,” NSW Trustee and Guardian Lismore, Branch Manager Susan Slade said.
Enjoying a reputation as the State’s largest Will-maker, NSW Trustee & Guardian has written over 900,000 Wills and currently manages around 2000 estates a year, as well as providing assistance with a range of other legal and financial affairs.
There is no charge to make or update your Will with NSW Trustee & Guardian as executor. Charges apply on estate administration only.
Bookings for Wills Days are essential to ensure you have the information required to make your Will at an assigned time on the day.
