Kingscliff remembers Felix

Ninety-four year old Felix “Phil” Jenkins was farewelled last week.
A familiar sight around Kingscliff on his motorized scooter in recent years the RSL member died earlier this month.
Kingscliff RSL vice president said he would be greatly missed.
“Felix “Phil” Jenkins commenced his military journey by joining the Citizens Military Forces until 1941 and then the Army in Gladesville in Sydney in Jan 1942,” Brian said.
“He was posted as a sapper in 2/15th Field Company Royal Australian Engineers. This unit became part of 2/7th Australian Armoured Regiment and Felix’s rank was changed from sapper to trooper. Felix saw fierce, active service with his unit on Moritai and Borneo during the later part of the war. He was discharged in 1946.
“Felix’s son Jon, thinks, after reading Felix’s autobiography, that the one message about his war service comes through which also applied to his life and that was the element of luck. He had many ‘lucky’ escapes with others being killed next to him – other LCMs sinking in shark infested waters while he just made it to shore; near misses with cyclones and another number of examples that he gives.”
Felix was a member of the Stockton, Gosford and Gladesville RSLs and an associate member of Kingscliff. He first joined the RSL in 1946.
He was a much loved Father of Teri and Jon. Loved Pop of Victoria, Nicholas and Jill. Great-grandfather of Adrian, Christiana and Maddison. Brother of Basil, Molly, David (dec’d), Charles (dec’d) and Len (dec’d).

Thank you for the music:
