Youth lead the way at Tyalgum festival

Essential Energy will empower young and local aspiring musicians through their support of the second annual Bright Sparks Music Program at this year’s landmark 21st anniversary Tyalgum Festival of Classical Music on Sunday, September 9.
Keen students who are excited by performing, who love to make music, who practise with enthusiasm, but are not necessarily aiming for the concert stage, will perform on a variety of instruments in three separate concert sessions on Sunday, September 9.
The concerts will glow with youthful energy and include wide and varied instrumentation and repertoire, including piano, strings, woodwind, brass and voice, aged eight to 18 years.
“Bright Sparks is an important element of the growing youth component of the Festival’s fringe program and gives these promising young performers a unique opportunity to participate in an event that features world-class established musicians,” said Tyalgum Festival Artistic Director, Jennifer Hibbard.
“But perhaps even more significantly, it encourages them to attend the other concerts being held over the weekend, where they can listen to and meet the professionals.
“We hope this will inspire them and give them the vision to see where music can take them.”
Essential Energy’s Manager Community Relations North Coast, Rachel Hussell, said Essential Energy was proud to support these young musicians who represent the future of classical music.
“There’s no better way to empower young people than by giving them the opportunity to perform in front of their parents, friends, peers and community,” she said.
“By supporting events such as this, Essential Energy is also investing in the spirit of community that is engendered by quality events such as the Tyalgum Festival of Classical Music.”
For the second year, Essential Energy has also extended its support to the Community Spring Fair and Music Carnivale being held on the Sunday of the Festival.
Running from 10am to 2pm in the Tyalgum School grounds, this free community event will include live music, street performers, market stalls, information stands, food outlets and more.
“Essential Energy first came on board as a major supporter in 2011, enabling us to transform our traditional family picnic day into a fully-fledged showcase of musical talent and creativity from the entire Tweed Valley,” said Tyalgum Festival Coordinator, Alexsandra Deen-Wilkinson.
“We are thrilled that they are supporting the Community Spring Fair event again this year.”
The 21st anniversary Tyalgum Festival of Classical Music will run over three days from Friday, September 7 to Sunday, September 9, featuring an outstanding program of concerts held in the acoustically-perfect Tyalgum Community Hall.
