NINE Tweed Coast acts (OK, eight and one Gold Coaster) are set for next month’s AFEX Spring Sensation at the Kingscliff Amenities Hall in Marine Parade on Saturday 23 November, from 2pm-8pm.
The event is the brainchild of local teen-aged musician Jay Varudo of the band AFEX. The Kingscliff High HSC student has once again gathered together the best of the local teen bands to put on a show.
Jay said the AFEX Spring Sensation showcases the talent out in our Tweed Coast Community.
“For two acts, Blood Brothers and The Virgin Centigrade Repela, it is their first ever live performance,” he said.
“The last gig (in winter) wasn’t too big of a success so we are trying to make this bigger and better by getting in some bigger acts (Double Lined Minority have played at Big Day Out and done tours of Australia and the Philippines) and also hiring more professional gear.
“Revolution Music have kindly donated a $50 gift voucher for the performer who sells the most tickets.
“After the last gig I thought about giving up these seasonal gigs as we lost a lot of money. But we gained some new fans.
“I realised I needed to keep these days/nights going for not just myself but for the kids who want to go to local shows and the kids that find it to hard to get local shows … I noticed there is basically nothing like this in the area and it is a great thing for this community.
“This next gig I want to get a bigger audience into the Community Hall. I want the bands to feel like they are playing to a large group of people. I want people to dance to the music. I want everyone to have some fun.”
This season’s acts include:
– Blood Brothers (Acoustic/Rock) first ever live performance.
– The Virgin Centigrade Repela (Alt/Punk Rock) first ever live performance.
– Tom Marto (Acoustic) first ever solo live performance.
– Karma Control (Grunge).
– Cadillac Rockers (’50s Swing).
