The Tweed Shire Pound and Friends of the Pound have been inundated with cats and kittens. The Pound has had dozens of surrendered or abandoned cats and kittens delivered to them by the public. Many pets need homes because their owners have died or gone into care, or because people need to move to accommodation where pets are not allowed – or just because they don’t get their cats desexed! The Pound cages are full and we are desperate for homes for these beautiful cats and kittens.
“If you can find a place in your heart for one (or two) of these pussies it would be wonderful,” a Friends of the Pound spokesperson said. “They are featured on our website www.friendsofthepound.com. It doesn’t matter whether you adopt a cat or kitten from the Tweed Shire Pound or a foster cat from Friends of the Pound, by doing so you will save a life. We also need more foster carers so that we can rescue more cats and kittens. Foster carers have bedding, litter trays and food provided and any vet bills and medications are paid for by Friends of the Pound.
“We have tried so hard to educate people about the importance of desexing their cats, but the kittens keep coming. People seem to think they will just have ‘one litter’ and give the kittens away. One cat producing kittens every season and those going on to breed can result in upwards of eighty million cats in 10 years. Sounds crazy, but it adds up.”
Friends of the Pound is participating in National Desexing Month in July. If you need assistance to desex your cat, please contact Lee or Wendy on 0487 179 244. If you wish to adopt a cat or kitten, or be a foster-carer for Friends of the Pound, please phone our Adoption Booth on 07 55248590 or Trudi our Foster Cat Co-ordinator on 0438 215 771.
