Bronze Aussies

Clubbies Corner by Tania Phillips

CONGRATULATIONS to the Cudgen Headland senior squad that was successful in gaining a bronze medallion last Sunday: S. Hawkin, B. Jones, K. Jones, T. Jones, S. Leslie, C. Nelson, J. O’Brien, J. Quinn, J. Tesch, R. Shepherd, C. Smith, D. Vickery, D. Wright; and the Surf Rescue Certificate to A. Vogue and J. Robertson.
The team that contested the 40th Coffs Harbour Craft Carnival on Sunday had some good results in fields of Australian Standard Competition. The Open Board Relay had a good win.
Unfortunately on the trip home, the gear trailer being towed by the small bus broke in tow, speared across the road and almost tipped the bus, no oncoming traffic at the time. The trailer is only two years old and six craft were damaged.
Cudgen’s barefoot bowls afternoon on Sunday attracted 80 bowlers and raised a good sum towards the purchase of a new IRB motor for the new craft that was officially handed over during the afternoon. The club thanked to Kingscliff Bowls Club, sponsors for the raffle, the barbecue helpers and club organisers.

Sri Lankan visit
MICK Kenny has returned from his instructional visit to Sri Lanka. Training was five and a half days a week with four groups trained total of 90 who came from Coastguard, Navy and Army gaining awards.
Word has come from Santiago Sinuan, the Philippines Red Cross trauma officer who recently had a five-week exchange with us that he is safe and with his wife is busy in conducting work on the northern area of Cebu which is directly west of the islands of Samar and Leyte where typhoon Haiyan struck.
They had fewer casualties compared to others, but almost all housing was destroyed. Earlier this year Cudgen donated two rescue boards and tubes to his life-saving group.

Events
This weekend Cudgen club members will be busy assisting in the Kingscliff triathlon. Assistance with the barbecue would be appreciated.
The Old Boys Association will hold their Christmas meeting in Murwillumbah on Saturday afternoon.
