CABARITA Youth Service’s fledgling bodyboard group is set to have it’s final event of the year this month.
The club has already run four competitions and will finish up with a presentation early this month.
Youth worker Simon Kelly said the bodyboarding has come on in leaps and bounds since the establishment of the Cabarita Body Boards, by Cabarita Youth Services in collaboration with the CaBBA Boardriders mid-way through this year.
He said regular events were held over the second half of the year with 35 competitors taking part in each of the final two events.
“It was challenging as there was quite a current but the riders did extremely well. It was the most numbers we’ve had a big welcome to all the new members,” Simon said.
“The Body Boarders have grown since the first competition, so much so that we are including a B Division, to cater for the younger kids who may not be up to the older more experienced kids.
“The young people are now also learning how to judge, which is enabling the day to run smoother and opening up another path for them to take.”
Nick Brabham, CYS committee member was also excited about the future of the bodyboarding club.
“Hutchinson’s Builders have come on board (pardon the pun) to sponsor the Cabarita Body Board competition by way of a $1500 donation towards rash shirts,” he said.
“Thank you Hutchinson’s your support is greatly appreciated”.
