CUDGEN is heading for a possible outright victory in the under-16 Ballina District Competition match against Tintenbar East Ballina at the weekend.
The home team dismissed Tintenbar East Ballina in the 31st over for just 81 and in reply were already in front at the close of play.
Cudgen’s Ryan Lahrs and Corey Kirkham led the way with the ball, both snaring two wickets with Tom Booth, Brodie Paddon, Max Bryant and Connor Ziebell chiming in with a wicket each.
Cudgen started the run chase and was in a hurry to mow down the target set. Ryan Lahrs hit an impressive 32 from 27 balls before being stumped. Max Bryant finished on the day on 66 not out off 40 balls which included seven fours and three sixes.
Cudgen will be keen to set a target and try and claim an outright win when play resumes on Saturday
Meanwhile Mullum/Murbah travelled to Byron to play their game and were shocked to be all out for 77 runs.
Wickets tumbled from the first over and the only saviour was Isaac Fisher who scored a magnificent 42.
Byron Bay started their innings and found the going easy losing only two wickets at the end of the day’s play.
It is going to be a long day in the field on Saturday for Mullum/Murbah as they attempt to save the match and not lose the game on outright. I think the boys may be praying for rain this week.
Competition leaders Ballina won the toss and elected to bat on the turf at Seabreeze oval in the under-14 Ballina District Competition game against Pottsville.
With a few showers around and a wet ground batting was difficult.
Pottsville fought hard to reach 5/78 at the change of innings with Tim Spencer not out 16 and Riggson Lillis not out 25.
As the morning progressed, the sun peeked out – which allowed the ground to dry a little allowing Ballina to reach 5/122 from their overs. Wickets were shared for Pottsville with C. McDowell, L. Wylie, H. Gray, T. Spencer and B. Kelly all claiming a wicket each. Pottsville will be keen to restrict Ballina next week to a reasonable score to allow them to chase the runs.
There were no results available from the Murwillumbah and Byron Bay game while the under-12 Tweed District Competition took a one-week hiatus for the Ashes.
