THIS weekend’s Tweed Coast Holiday Parks Kingscliff triathlon is now just days away – with the event set down for Sunday morning.
With record entries exceeding 1400 participants and nearly 800 individuals and teams competing in the Olympic distance triathlon – 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km ride, organisers are excited and nervous to ensure the event runs smoothly.
This event has taken on special signifigance now becoming an Australian team selection race for the national team to compete in the World Championships of triathlon in 2014.
QSM Sports general manager and event organiser Mike Crawley said the race was important to triathletes and to the Tweed region.
“The coastal township of Kingscliff is enjoying a large upswing in accommodation and the number of spectators, athletes and supporters coming to beautiful location on the northern New South Wales coast line,” he said.
“This triathlon is now just four years of age and has a reputation as a social, fun race in an incredible location. The Tweed Shire Council, Destination Tweed together with the Tweed Coast Holiday Parks as the major sponsor have all supported the organisers and the triathletes during the event’s development phase.”
Friends, families and spectators are invited to attend and enjoy a great community event with kids, learn to try, sprint and Olympic distance races offering something to everyone.
