Small school wins big

Fingal Public School’s Years 4 to 6 students’ school camp fundraising efforts received a major boost this month, thanks to the generousity of the community and a local shopping centre.
The tiny Tweed Coast school finished runner-up in the small school’s division of the annual Tweed City Shopping Centre “Scholar Dollars Promotion” which ran throughout May and June at the centre.
Nineteen primary schools from throughout the Tweed took part in the promotion, with Fingal finishing second behind South Murwillumbah for schools under 100 students, with South Tweed Public winning the large schools category ahead of another Tweed Coast school, St Anthony’s at Kingscliff. Winning schools received $5000, with $2000 for the runners-up.
Shoppers were able to hand in their dockets after shopping at Tweed City and nominate their school. The schools with the most dockets won. And although Fingal is one of the region’s smallest, it certainly has a lot of support.
The money raised will go towards the end of year, three-day camp for the oldest members of the school’s community. Students have been busy fundraising over the past few months to raise the money to attend the leadership camp.
