Writing competition for young authors

Budding young writers across the Tweed Coast are invited by book retailer Dymocks to show off their creative writing talent in the annual Andy Griffiths Kids’ Writing Competition.
Now in its third successful year, the nationwide writing competition run in conjunction with Dymocks and bestselling Australian children’s author Andy Griffiths, is calling for young writers on the Tweed Coast up to the age of 12 to write a creative short story with a ‘treehouse’ theme.
One of Australia’s most popular children’s writers, Andy Griffiths has sold over five million books worldwide and has featured on the New York Times bestseller lists. With over 40 Australian Children’s Choice Awards to his name, Andy Griffiths’ latest novel ‘The 13-Storey Treehouse’ is the basis for this year’s theme in the popular writing competition.
Judged by Andy Griffiths, the winning entry that displays the most creativity and originality will have their short story illustrated by Griffiths’ renowned illustrator Terry Denton. The winner and nine runners-up will receive an Andy Griffiths Book Collection containing 21 books, valued at $309.27 each.
“We’re thrilled to open the Andy Griffiths Kids’ Writing Competition up for another year in the search for emerging young writers across the country. We hope our entrants will showcase their creativity and writing talent and encourage children to take part in creating their own stories, but most of all, foster the love and joy of reading and writing for years to come,” said Dymocks CEO, Don Grover.
Entries for the Andy Griffiths Kids’ Writing Competition are open until Monday, October 31, and winners will be announced by December 7, 2011.
To enter, young aspiring writers can simply email their maximum 200-word short story entry to booklover@dymocks.com.au with “Andy Griffiths Writing Competition” in the subject heading or mail their entry to Dymocks Booklover, Level 6, 428 George Street, Sydney NSW 2000.
