Council extends water bill period

By TANIA PHILLIPS

THE Tweed Shire Council will give residents an extra two weeks to pay their next water bill – due at Christmas.
Water bills will be mailed on 16 December with payment due six weeks later on 24 January.
“Christmas can be a financially stressful time, particularly for families. The council has listened to its customers and has responded accordingly,” Tweed Shire Council’s water manager Anthony Burnham said.
“We hope that the extra two weeks to pay water bills will provide some welcome relief for our customers over the coming festive period.
“The council understands that some customers may still find it difficult to make payment deadlines. This is why flexible payment options are also available for approved customers,” Mr Burnham said.
In circumstances where customers are having difficulty meeting payment deadlines, the council will allow weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments. Customers on a payment plan will still be charged interest on the outstanding balance during the repayment period. Customers wishing to apply for a payment plan must contact the council’s customer service team before the payment due date.
