TYALGUM could soon have a new scenic lookout and be missing one transfer station if the Tweed Shire Council gets its way.
Following falling usage at the Tyalgum transfer station over the past four years, the council is investigating the closure of tip and is seeking feedback from the community.
Should the site be closed, consideration is also being given to post-closure options for the site, including the possible establishment of a scenic lookout, according to the council’s waste management co-ordinator Rod Dawson.
“It is believed that provision of household bin services and the bi-annual cleanup has reduced the need for this facility, which is reflected in a continual decline in customers using the site,” Dawson said.
“Before finalising this decision, the council is seeking feedback from the community on both the intention to close the Tyalgum transfer station and on the establishment of a scenic lookout.”
