KINGSCLIFF is set to lead NSW again in fund-raising after a massive Girl’s Night In event at Cudgen Leagues Club on Saturday night.
More than 200 Tweed Coast women took part in this year’s event – the brainchild of local woman Kim Telling and her daughters.
Now in it’s seventh year, the event was the second-biggest in NSW last year and Kim is hoping to go one better this year.
“It was great, best one yet,” Kim said this week.
“We had 230 women. The waiters were fantastic and the dancers were so much fun.
“One of the waiters, Brock, volunteered his hairy chest to be waxed, we sold the strips and the women got to wax him – ouch but such great guy to get involved.
“Mandy (comedian Mandy Nolan) was better than ever, and the support from all the community and the local businesses was amazing with heaps of prizes donated. Heaps of women spent lots of dollars in the local town getting hair, make-up, nails, tan, clothes, alcohol for pre drinks etc so it is a win for Kingscliff too.”
She said while she was unable to announce actual figures yet, she expected it to beat last year’s $13,200.
“I still have to collect all the auction money and they have seven days to pay, but I can say providing everyone pays we will beat last year’s figure,” Kim said.
“I am hoping to announce the final figure by the end of the week.”
The event has grown from humble beginnings in Kim’s loungeroom seven years ago, according to comedian Mandy Nolan, who has been a fixture of the event since its inception. This year, for the first time, they added a live band, Who’s Charlie, to the already packed line-up. Kim said it continued to increase in popularity with this year’s Girl’s Night In selling out in just three hours.
“The feed-back on the night was awesome,” Kim said.
“So many commented that it was the best event they had ever been to,” she said.
“Last year, we came second in the state – fingers crossed we make it to No.1.”
