Local knowledge pays off

David and two of the Mad Huey’s crew.

Fishing on the Tweed with David Solano

WHERE do you start when you wanna tell a fishy yarn about your weekend adventures? Well here I go …
First of all, I can tell you Cody Monroe and Josh Gurney, two young gun fishos from the local area went cruising by me. I waved them over and we exchanged fishing info, which included Josh telling me of his catch of a nice giant trev near the leases around Seagulls.
Interesting because Josh’s catch was captured on film by no less than the “Mad Huey’s” and their camera crew. I know this to be fact as I met up with the boys later that morning and all they could talk about was Josh’s trev! Go the Mad Huey’s.
Sunday morning I took my neighbor Shane out on Dick’s yak, to the seaway of all places (he didn’t tell me he got sea sick). It was pretty rough out there which must have made it hard to hear as I told Shane to follow me but unfortunately he went to the wrong side of the river and put himself in harm’s way.
Just near the seaway, opposite Jack Evans Boat Harbor, is a little surf break that Shane found himself right in the middle of.
He kept going in and out of sight as the swell lifted him up and down, then the next instant I see him take-off. Gee, he’s on a wave and flying. I’ve never seen the hobie move so quick and just as Shane made it to near the end of the wave it flipped the yak sending Shane flying. His quick reflexes saving his gear and all, but had me falling into hysterical laughter as the whole time I’m yelling at Shane (Kelly) “don’t do it! go back,” but he wouldn’t listen or couldn’t hear me.
What fun we have on the Tweed even when we aren’t catching fish. Cheers.
