On April 8 the first Back 2 School Day Events will break out across the country, unleashing the big kid in all of us and raising funds to help disadvantaged Aussie kids transform their lives through education.
The event will see ordinary Aussies reliving their old school days and holding recess events in their workplace to raise funds for The Smith Family.
“It’s great to see the level of support this fun event is getting,” The Smith Family CEO, Dr Lisa O’Brien said.
“People are donning school uniforms or grabbing their old school tie and breaking out the fairy bread to come together, have some fun and show support for the thousands of kids missing out right here in Australia.
“With one in seven Australian children living in financial dis-advantage, our event is a timely reminder of the reality that Australia is not the lucky country for all. That’s why today The Smith Family supports disadvantaged kids to get the most out of their education so that they can create better futures for themselves.”
The Smith Family is encouraging adults across the country to get involved at www.back2schoolday.com.au:
• Companies, hold a recess break at your workplace and invite everyone to dust off the old school uniform and “come as they were”.
• Schools, reverse roles for the day as teachers and staff come dressed in school uniform, and the kids come as what they want to be when they
grow up.
• Individuals, friends, clubs, families, get sponsored to dress up in school uniform or hold your own recess break with food, fun and festivities.
In the past year The Smith Family has reached more than 126,000 disadvantaged children and their families in 95 communities across Australia to help them realise their potential. Many more kids need help, so register now for the one day of the year when fully-grown adults get to relive school days and raise money for a great cause.
