Marshalling the blues to Cabarita

Marshall Okell’s previous band, the multi award-winning Marshall and The Fro, stomped their way into the hearts and minds of live music fans right around the country.
Marshall has put ‘The Fro’ aside and expanded on his trademark sound for this new project and first solo EP Sugar – which was released at Bluesfest in Byron Bay. Sugar exposes a different side of Marshall Okell’s writing and features five tracks that expand on his blues-inspired previous work.
The EP shows off a Paul Simon Graceland-era African influence, a splash of The Kinks’ garage rock excitement, and lead track Almost Killed You trips, along with an atmospheric Carney vibe. The sound of the Sugar EP is due in part to Okell’s new collaborators: Ryan Van Gennip and Jon ‘Howler’ Howell, who are the rhythm section of the band Chase The Sun.
Marshall Okell will be bringing a swag of brand new material to East Coast audiences so come and experience Marshall’s live acoustic duo – you will not be disappointed.
Supported by Vicki Grant from 6pm
There are very few distinctly unique voices in the world today, but Vikki, aka V Grant, was lucky enough to be born with one.
She has been likened to many, but remains as the unsuspecting love child of Tracy Chapman and Toni Childs. Vocally trained by the legendary Venetta Fields, V Grant has an energy that’s contagious, she performs with a stompbox, djembe and an acoustic guitar… A definite must see!
