New England audiences will be carried away on a “street of dreams” when Mic Conway (“the king of vaudeville”) and friends perform at the Eastview Estate winery, Kentucky, on Sunday, November 6.
Mic Conway and the award-winning guitarist Robbie Long are launching their new album Street of Dreams – a “dreamlike” collection of classic and original songs chosen, Mic says, because of their “surrealist” lyrics. They will be joined by the double bass player, singer and songwriter Liz Frencham and supported by the popular local bossa nova band Maracuja.
Mic Conway has worked in theatre, music, cabaret, television and film (including his work with The Wiggles), and has toured across Australia, Britain, the United States, New Zealand and Asia. He is renowned for what one reviewer has called his “clever combination of the absurd and witty with tremendous musicality” – a combination exemplified in his highly successful National Junk Band.
Over the past 20 years the Australian guitarist Robbie Long has played on stages and in studios around Australia, New Zealand and Europe. As well as playing solo (winning the title of Australian flat pick guitar champion in 2008), he tours regularly with his bluegrass/newgrass band The Lawnmowers, and with singer-songwriter Kate Fagan. His performances with Mic Conway include Captain Matchbox and National Junk Band favourites with some of Mic’s Circus Oz antics.
Liz Frencham has become a favourite on the music festival circuit, whether performing alone or with other well-known artists. Her most recent album, the highly-praised You & Me Vol 1, comprises live duets with a range of such artists – including Mic Conway.
Eastview Estate is 3km along the Kentucky Road from the New England Highway. The winery’s Restaurant Pinot will be open for fine dining on the day and food, soft drinks, wine and beer (no BYO) will also be available outside, where the music will get underway at about 2pm. The event has been organised by Uralla Arts. For inquiries and restaurant bookings, phone (02) 6778 7473 and, for a map, go to the web sites www.uralla-arts.com or www.eastviewestate.com.
