Popular tenor for links

By TANIA PHILLIPS

INSPIRATIONAL Murwillumbah tenor David Chittick is set to headline this month’s Tweed Link Music Club performance at the Coolangatta Tweed Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.
David, who is just about to release his first book, will be joined by Irish vocalist Jack O’Leary while young cellist, Freyia Curnows will also support him.
The Tweed Links Dancers will add colour while Bob Green will host the event with the Tweed Links Quartet, Jed Stone on keyboards, Jean Stone on double bass, Owen Smith on drums and Peter McHutchison on clarinet and sax, also performing.
David, born and raised in Murwillumbah, studied music and voice at The University of New England Northern Rivers. Television, theatrical appearances and club bookings followed but an illness affecting his voice put him out of the business for several years.
During this time David put his energy into studying Swedish massage and other treatments that had helped him through his illness and he is still working as a therapist to this day.
In 2007 an operation for thyroid cancer again interrupted David’s singing career and it was during the five-year period after this that David, a talented artist and long-time movie and television buff, researched and wrote his historical book on early television.
Sadly, several of the actors/directors/performers who shared their recollections have since died from cancer-related illnesses and others are battling various forms of the disease.
It is fitting then, that David wishes to donate a portion of the proceeds from his book to cancer research.
