Everyone knows that the first rule of Fight Club is not to talk about Fight Club.
Fortunately for us, the film’s Australian producer, Ross Grayson Bell, has decided to break this rule.
Grayson Bell will attend and participate in a Q&A session following a one-off special screening of Fight Club on 35mm print on Thursday, August 11 at 7pm at Australia Fair Birch Carroll and Coyle Cinemas on the Gold Coast!
Fight Club was the most talked about film of 1999. Directed by David Fincher, it stars Edward Norton, Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter.
Norton plays the unnamed protagonist, an “everyman” who is discontented with his white-collar job in American society.
He forms a “fight club” with soap maker Tyler Durden, played by Pitt, and becomes embroiled in a relationship with him and a dissolute woman, Marla Singer, played by Bonham Carter.
Producer Ross Grayson Bell, now Head of Screenwriting at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), will introduce the film and also participate in a question and answer session at the end of the film, chaired by Maria Lewis.
Grayson Bell has had production partnerships with Winona Ryder, Jamie Foxx and Lawrence Bender and has worked with prestigious directors including David Fincher, Gillian Armstrong, Pedro Almodovar, Gore Verbinksi, Sam Raimi and Roger Corman.
Most recently, Grayson Bell has turned his attention to screenwriting. His adaptation of ‘The Man Who Fell in Love with the Moon’ saw him land on the British List of ‘Best Produced Screenplays’.
He has two projects currently in development: “A Product for the System”, the adaptation of Mark Leech’s autobiography, and the story of Barry Cox, entitled “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing in Perfect Cantonese” for BBC Films.
Grayson Bell is also the head of the AFTRS Screenwriting course.
Fans and cinefiles can purchase tickets for $12 from Australia Fair cinemas from today (or at www.eventcinemas.com.au with a $1 booking fee).
Tickets will also be available for sale on the night unless sold out prior.
“Fight Club is a film that has achieved genuine cult status.
“We have obtained an original 35mm print for this screening so, for any fans who missed the film at the cinemas in 1999, this screening is a must see.
“I’m also very excitedly looking forward to hearing producer Ross Grayson Bell talk about the film and the story behind getting it made,” Casey Marshall Siemer, Festival Director said.
Grayson Bell will return to the Gold Coast in November to give a seminar at the Gold Coast Film Festival on “How to Get Your Movie Produced in Hollywood and How to Engage Cinema Audiences”.
The Gold Coast Film Festival, presented by Australia Fair Shopping Centre, will be held in November 21-27, 2011 at Australia Fair Birch Carroll and Coyle Cinemas in Southport.
Gold Coast City Council’s Film Gold Coast and Business GC are the major Government sponsors of the event. For more details please see www.gcfilmfestival.com
