CO-SONGWRITER and guitarist for The Smiths Johnny Marr and band of the moment The Rubens have been added to the line-up for the first ever Falls Music and Arts Festival at Wooyung (North Byron Parklands) in December.
Marr will join old friend and sometime musical collaborator Neil Finn who was part of the original announcement last month along with Vampire Weekend, The Cat Empire, and The Wombats.
The announcement comes just as public ticket sales open (local tickets are still available).
The Falls festivals are held across the stunning coastal locations of Lorne Victoria, Marion Bay, Tasmania and Byron Bay, New South Wales this summer.
Johnny Marr is an institution. The co-songwriter and guitarist for The Smiths, part-time member of bands such as Modest Mouse, The Cribs and The Pretenders is back, this time with a solo album The Messenger. It’s big, bright and full of jangly guitar rock, exactly what you’d expect from one of music’s greatest guitarists.
One of the finest acts in Australia at the moment is The Rubens. Nominated for J Awards and ARIA Awards in 2012 with the release of their self-titled album, which included hits like ‘Lay It Down’ and ‘My Gun’.
Joining them will be Indie songstress Emma Louise, Sydney hip-hop duo Horrorshow, The Hungry Kids Of Hungary, taking out the Falls JB Seed slot is Oliver Tank, Indie-folk band from Melbourne The Paper Kites, Blue Mountains hip hoppers Thundamentals, Violent Soho and Philadelphia band The War On Drugs.
