Have you always wanted to write fiction but never quite got started? Or you did start, but lost the plot?
Adventures In Fiction, a one-day workshop with awarding-winning novelist, Bronwyn Parry, introduces beginners and early stage writers to the most important techniques in writing fiction. In just a day you can learn things it can take months or years to learn by yourself, including developing a strong premise for a novel, creating complex characters, planning, plot development, pacing, structure, and much more. The workshop will be held on Saturday, June 16, at New England Writers Centre.
The next event in NEWC’s Festival of Words is Digital Bootcamp, on August 11, a one-day workshop in creating and publishing e-books. With new software hitting the market that allows you to create your own multimedia e-books with just ‘drop and drag’, no programming involved, it is now within the reach of even the most non-technological writers to make and publish their own books. But there is much you need to know about digital publishing and marketing for your book to have a chance of success. Digital publishing pioneer, David Reiter, knows a lot about that, and will show participants in this workshop how projects are put together and promoted to a potentially huge worldwide audience.
Coming up later in the year, literary agent Pippa Masson will hold a one-day Manuscript Assessment workshop in October, where participants can pitch their manuscripts, and she will give a talk at Armidale Library called Day in the Life of a Literary Agent.
In November, award-winning fantasy writer, Kate Forsyth, will hold a workshop called Writing the Fantastical and, in a discussion called Child’s Play, at Armidale Library, she and Sophie Masson will discuss issues in writing for children and young adults.
There are also two monthly writing groups where members can read and get feedback on their work.
