COOLY ROCKS ON kicks off the new year with its first major event, REVS ’n’ ROCKABILLY, Sunday, February 10 from 11am (Qld time) at Pioneer Country, Fraser Drive, Tweed Heads South.
Families are welcome to attend the one-day event, which will feature a colourful display of custom and classic cars and hot rods, with the first 250 cars competing in the Shannon’s Show ’n’ Shine competition.
Johnny Cash tribute band Cashville and DJ Rhythm Man Mark will provide entertainment, along with headline artists, Melbourne-based four-piece rock ’n’ roll, rockabilly, rhythm and blues band, Itchy Fingers.
COOLY ROCKS ON CEO, Bob Newman, said organisers were expecting a big turnout on Sunday, with COOLY ROCKS ON fans keen to warm up their dancing shoes for the major festival, which takes place in Coolangatta Tweed from May 31 to June 10.
“Itchy Fingers are one of the country’s hottest rockabilly bands at the moment and we are expecting big crowds of Gold Coast and Tweed dancers,” he said.
“Many people know this band – they played backing for American ’50s and ’60s superstar, Wanda Jackson on her previous three Australian tours, so they are highly regarded amongst Rockabilly fans.”
REVS ’n’ ROCKABILLY will provide the opportunity for car enthusiasts and music lovers to get a taste of things to come when COOLY ROCKS ON begins in a few months’ time.
“This warm-up event will give locals an introduction to what’s on offer at COOLY ROCKS ON, with the same music, cars and atmosphere that have been attracting people from around the world for almost three decades.
“Pioneer Country is a great, country-style venue with a fully licensed restaurant, which will be decked out like a saloon, with hay bales for seating and a big dance floor to keep the dancers on their toes all day,” Bob said.
“We expect REVS ’n’ ROCKABILLY to become a much-loved local event and an annual ‘warm-up’ for COOLY ROCKS ON.”
Admission for REVS ’n’ ROCKABILLY is $10 for adults; and children under 16, accompanied by an adult, free.
