Works by artists from a large area of northern NSW and Queensland are to feature in this year’s Framed exhibition which opens at New England Girls’ School on Friday (September 9).
More than 130 paintings and jewellery items have already been entered in the fourth annual exhibition, run by the NEGS Old Girls’ Union to help fund scholarships to the school.
Co-organiser Nan Robertson, of ‘Wanderribby’ Wollomombi, said the works are by well known and not so well known artists from as far as Sydney and the Blue Mountains, Deniliquin to Brisbane and Central Queensland.
“New Englanders will recognise names such as David Mackay who is recognised for his botanical art, Barry McCann whose portrait of cook Maggie Beer and chef Simon Bryant was hung in the 2008 Archibald Prize, and sculptor James Rogers. But among the many other artists are a number whose works have not been exhibited locally before,” she said.
Mrs Robertson said, while some artists had an association with NEGS, many did not, but chose to enter works because of its reputation.
‘Framed’ opens on Friday night at the NEGS Multi-Purpose Centre. The exhibition continues on Saturday as part of the NEGS Spring Fair, concluding at 11.00am on Sunday.
Tickets to Friday night’s opening are available from NEGS, while entrance on Saturday and Sunday is free.
