Gala opening night for new exhibitions at NERAM

Portrait of Chandler Coventry, AM (1997) by Angus Nivison, NERAM Collection

Artworks from the permanent collections take centre stage at the New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) for the next couple of months.
Opening on Friday August 10, 2012 are five new exhibitions and everyone in the community is invited to come along at 6pm to enjoy the art and festivities, including opening remarks by renowned Walcha-based artist Angus Nivison.
Best of Coventry (August 10 to October 21, 2012) is the first major Coventry Collection exhibition in over a decade and highlights Chandler (Channy) Coventry’s collecting flair. Channy was renowned for his passion and support for young and emerging artists and the vibrancy, strength and diversity of the works still speak to us today.
Forty years on, artists represented by Coventry in the 1960s, 70s and 80s have generously donated works to raise money for the conservation of the Chandler Coventry Collection.
Coventry’s Artists (August 10 to September 16, 2012)  is a selling exhibition featuring works by Julia Griffin, Steven Harvey, Stephen King, Ross Laurie, Alun Leach-Jones, Angus Nivison,  Caroline Nivison, John Morris, James Rogers, Peter Sharp and John Turier.
Howard Hinton chose artworks that were imagin-ative and arresting because they were painted, or drawn, from a different perspective. All the works in A Different Perspective (August 10 to November 11, 2012) are from the Howard Hinton Collection and allow us to view our everyday world in a new way.
For Backdrop (August 10 to November 11, 2012), the Felt Tip Theatre Company has selected works from the Howard Hinton and NERAM Collections that will also inspire their own series of original skits, to be performed in the Mazda Gallery surrounded by the artworks. These exciting interpretations may change the way you look at your favourite artworks! (Performance dates are to be announced).
Back by popular demand is pARTicpate II, a chance for everyone to join in, create an artwork and add to a community installation.
NERAM is open Tuesday through Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
