Jazz fans share tribute

Northern NSW Lifeguard coordinator Scott McCartney keeps an eye out at Kingscliff Beach.

FOLLOWING sell out shows in Paris, Guadeloupe, Helsinki and a run of festivals throughout Europe exclusive rising French star Tricia Evy and iconic Australian singer and trombonist Dan Barnett and have joined forces to pay tribute to three of the greatest song smiths to ever swing a phrase – Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.

Dan and Tricia are backed by one of Sydney’s hottest trios which includes National Jazz Piano competition winner Matt McMahaon, first call Sydney bassist Karl Dunnicliff and New Orleans specialist drummer Anthony Howe.
Thanks to the New England Conservatorium of Music and The Armidale School Dan, Tricia and the band are also presenting a workshop for all aspiring jazz musicians.
This two-hour workshop is open to singers and instrumentalists who want to learn more about improvisation and performing jazz. The workshop will include small group tutorials finishing with a combined workshop performance.
Local musician Rob ‘Woody’ Woodhouse has had a long association with Dan and is excited to see such and exiting act come to Armidale.
“Dan is one of the most musical and entertaining instrumentalists in Australia and the musicians he is bringing with him are some of the finest in the country,” Rob Woodhouse said.
“Combining with the vocal talents of Tricia Evy and this is a show not to be missed. It is exciting that Armidale attracts such high quality acts and speaks volumes for the enthusiasm of the concert going public in our city.
“Aspiring musicians can also get some great advice at the workshop. I’m really looking forward to seeing the show and picking up some tips at the workshop – musicians never stop learning.”
