THE 1950s will make an audacious comeback in a swirl of daring fashion and rock ’n’ roll as Komune Resort & Beach Club presents the Rockabilly Dolls fashion and live music extravaganza on June 11 and a fitting finale to a seven-day live music schedule at the Southern Gold Coast’s new venue.
Set to get punters purring, the event spectacular is part of the Cooly Rocks On calendar and will step back in time with three Rockabilly Dolls fashion parades over an illuminated catwalk over the popular
Komune pool.
Melbourne rockers The Detonators will add the rock ’n’ roll soundtrack as the hottest pin up girls and guys parade Rockabilly fashion from local fashion outlets and designers. From burlesque lingerie to vintage camisoles, corsets and alternative dresses – all will be unveiled in a vibrant razzle dazzle display.
Komune owner Tony Cannon says the event is about bringing culture back to Coolangatta.
“Cooly Rocks On is the Southern Gold Coast’s own celebration of an era that was all about daring to be different. At Komune, we are dedicated to connecting cultures and the more exotic and different, the better” he said.
“There are already around 1000 cars registered for Cooly Rocks On which is an amazing effort by the organising committee and is a big indication of how successful this event will be.
“Komune was created for those adventurous, fun-loving, environmentally conscious travellers who share a passion for surf and beach culture. Now we can add a splash of nostalgia and take people back to a time that was all about staying light on your feet – and your surfboard.”
Rockabilly Dolls owner Jemma Clark has assembled some of the zaniest and stylish pin up girls in the country for the three highly anticipated fashion parades.
“These girls are hot, hot, hot and they know how to put on a show,”
she said.
“Rockabilly is back in a big way and this event is a celebration of an era that was just so much fun. From the outfits to the tattoos, it’s a trip down memory lane for many and the chance for others to be immersed in the culture.”
The Detonators are Paulie on guitar and vocals, Dave on bass and vocals and James on drums. The well-travelled trio have had people carving up the parquetry – and the streets – all over the world. Paulie has just released a CD recorded in the US and is well geared to rock out at Komune.
Komune Resort & Beach Club is the hottest entertainment and accommodation hub for surfers and travellers who enjoy the beach lifestyle, blended with a magical location fronting world-class surf breaks, exotic design, great beats and a friendly community-spirited atmosphere.
“Komune’s Beach Club is your all-day and night place to hang, re-charge and charge. Kick back and listen to tunes, travel the net, check the waves and mix good times with good people,” said owner Tony Cannon.
“Accommodation ranges from luxury apartments in a range of configurations to an entire floor dedicated to quality backpacker options. Komune also has many event venue options catering for 10 to 300 people.
“The response for Komune has been overwhelming since opening and we have some exciting announcements to make over the coming months for both locals and tourists alike.”
Facilities include full cocktail bar, restaurant, Italian pizza restaurant, wifi, internet, video arcade, open air poolside cinema, lounge areas, hammocks and design pool.
