New event supports local bands

In early 2011, local band Manic Sleeper Cell decided that the New England area needed to be showcased as a live music hub.
With little or no venues that support original live music, they put into motion New England Plugs In, which they are hoping will become a regular music festival in the region.
After talking to some friends and the people in the know, the wheels set in motion for New England Plugs In. The ’Stro at UNE came on board for the venue and local bands were all in a buzz to get on the line-up. NEPI wanted to start small and could only showcase seven bands on what is anticipated to be much bigger in future years.
The bands selected are a mixture of Pop, punk and hip hop, just a small teaser of what the region has to offer. To celebrate this landmark, all seven bands have chosen a selection of songs that they will perform at the 2011 New England Plugs In and combined this onto a CD which will be available on the night.
NEPI will be held at The ’Stro UNE on Saturday, August 27. Tickets are $10 each and all proceeds are going to Beyond Empathy. Tickets are available now at Blackdot Music and Campus Essentials. For more information, go to the website www.neplugsin.com
