Country gals head for the Twin Towns

By TANIA PHILLIPS

THREE of the queens of tributes will take on the roles of three generations of country music legends when The Ladies Of Country hit the stage.
Imagine if three of the most influential women in country music could all take the stage together – that’s just what The Ladies Of Country lets you not only imagine, but experience.
Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and Shania Twain interact and perform together with a little help from Sherrill Douglas, Wynona Dove and Kelly Smith.
Imagine this fabulous trio singing Nine to Five together, or if you’d been there when Shania and her idol Dolly sang Coat of Many Colours on the Oprah Show!
Kelly “Shania” Smith says these are just some of the scenarios that the show will bring to the audiences this year.
All we need now is Taylor Swift and you cover all the major generations – we joked during our chat about the forthcoming trip to Australia.
“There will be more clothes changes and more interaction,” she promised fans who were coming back to see the trio in action for the second time as many years.
She said Australian audiences had taken the show so much to heart that they were coming back and she was looking forward to particularly coming back to Tweed.
“I really liked Twin Towns – that’s the one near the water, right,” she said.
“That was my favourite venue along with Hobart – we aren’t playing Hobart this time so I am really looking forward to Twin Towns.”
Missouri girl Kelly admits to falling in love with Australia during their last trip (her first to this country).
“I had such a great time last time – I’m really looking forward to it.
“We will be mixing it up a bit more this time. This year is more of a variety show.
“What if Shania could sing Coat of Many Colours with Dolly?”
Kelly has become one of the US’s best-known tribute artists but Shania was not really her first choice – with the talented artist appearing as Cher.
“Someone said I looked more like Shania Twain,” she laughed.
“She is only a year and a half younger than me and she’s a talented song-writer which I really respect.”
Not that Kelly has abandoned Cher altogether – with both artists making it on stage in some of her performances. However not this time – this time she is looking forward to sharing the stage with Dolly and Patsy and enjoying performing with her friends Sherrill and Wynona.
“What happens on the road, stays on the road,” she laughed.
