JON Stevens is coming to the Bluesfest at Broadbeach later this month – good, right?
He’s also finding time to play at our own Cabarita Sports Club on 25 May – even better!
At a time when most musos are looking to cash in on stardom – live a quiet life and maybe find a gig on a reality program somewhere, the former Noiseworks and occasional INXS front man is doing anything but.
“Who wants to be a celebrity?” he mused during a rare quiet moment.
“I’m a working muso and I love it.”
Stevens says he is a good place – doing what he loves and enjoying the diversity of a career that has spanned a few decades now.
His new band, Dead Daisies has a new song out – featuring Guns and Roses guitarist Slash no less, he is currently rehearsing for Jesus Christ Superstar – which he will be heading to Perth to start soon and he’s gigging around doing solo stuff.
“I have a new band, a new album, a single just released – it really is all going on,” he laughed.
We get Stevens – in the raw as it were – acoustic with a four-piece band – playing anything and everything (something he says he relishes) and with Noiseworks, solo, Dead Daisies and even the occasional INXS tune it’s not like he’s going to run out of things to play.
“I love it and it will be 100 percent all original songs,” he said.
He says it’s the diversity that is keeping him interested – keeping him enjoying his career after all these years. But isn’t that what keeps us all at a job for a long time these days? For Stevens that diversity is pretty marked.
“Dead Daisies just toured with Aerosmith,” he laughed.
“Then a few days later I did a solo gig for 100 people – on top of that there is the Jesus Christ Superstar stuff.”
Stevens heads into town on Saturday, May 25 with Innocent Bystanders as support.
