WHERE else in the world can you hear four organs within two hours? Armidale is lucky (and almost unique) in having four organs within easy walking distance.
The 2013 Armidale Organ Crawl will exploit this on May 4. It is sort of like a pub crawl except that instead of a beer in each pub you have a short organ recital in each church.
Organists Warwick Dunham and Emma Hadfield will start in the Catholic Cathedral at 2pm and then move to the Anglican Cathedral, Presbyterian and Uniting Churches. Each of the organs is different and this is a fabulous chance to compare them and hear a wide range of music.
Warwick is a prize-winning organist who has achieved great success in both classical music and jazz. Emma grew up in Armidale and took up the organ as a student in Brisbane, where she is now forging a distinguished career.
They both have a tremendous amount to offer as musicians and their different approaches will enhance the experience of the crawl.
Tickets for the Organ Crawl are $20 ($12 concession) and available at Dymocks (or on the day at the door).
