Cloudland dances back to life

Experience life, love and dance from the 1940s to the 1980s with Queensland Ballet’s exhilarating dance production Cloudland at the Arts Centre Gold Coast on Friday, June 15.
An iconic Brisbane building for decades, the Cloudland ballroom was the focus of the city’s social life. Countless romances blossomed under its spinning mirror balls. When Artistic Director François Klaus began creating the ballet in 2004, he was “overwhelmed by the public’s response to our calls for information, stories, and memorabilia about Cloudland”.
Romantic, nostalgic, and humorous, Queensland Ballet’s Cloudland is based on real-life stories of romance, friendship and war-time relationships.
Featuring lavish sets, beautiful costumes, popular music and exquisite dance, this is ballet at its most accessible. Cloudland was a sellout hit in Brisbane in 2004, and charmed audiences on a critically acclaimed tour to six cities across Germany and Switzerland in 2007.
With music performed live on stage by Sean O’Boyle and his fabulous band, ‘Blackwood’ and vocalist Suzanne Kompass, the performance features much-loved music from across the decades, including ‘Almost Like Being in Love’, ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’, ‘Route 66’, ‘Rock around the Clock’, ‘Let’s Twist Again’’ and Disco Inferno’.
Let the spirited dancers of Queensland Ballet whisk you back in time to Cloudland.
