A Rose and a Thorn in Market Sunday Concert

‘Cain and Tayla’ is a play about friendship, family, belonging, caring and responsibility.

The Music on a Market Sunday Concert at 12.30pm on October 28 in the Uniting Church features recorder music by Pete Rose and Benjamin Thorn. Although they’ve never met in person, the two composer/performers have shared music and ideas for over 20 years and both have strongly influenced the development of the contemporary recorder repertoire. Both are quite eclectic composers, so this is a great opportunity to hear a range of different approaches in contemporary composition for the recorder.
The concert will include a new work Three Follies for solo ocarina by Benjamin Thorn as well as The Voice of the Crocodile, the work that gained him international fame. The next day Benjamin is heading off to Belgium where his piece for carillon Bell Play will be performed in Bruges on November 1 as part of the International Society for Contemporary Music’s World Music Days. This is a prestigious annual event that features leading composers from around the world.
Admission to Sunday’s concert is free, though donations are encouraged. Tea and sausages are available at the Uniting church before the concert.
