Tyalgum Festival Committee will present a musical journey through time for its annual fundraising concert at Tyalgum Hall on Sunday, July 29.
Performing as Neuvo Duo, violinist Wayne Brennan and violist Raquel Bastos from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra have planned a repertoire that will transport music-lovers from the Renaissance to the classical period and onto the present day.
The opening pieces they have chosen – Sainte-Colombe’s Tombeau les Regrets and French folk song Une Jeune Fillette – reflect the simplicity and hardship of the 16th and 17th centuries.
Travelling forward to the classical period of the late 18th/early 19th centuries, they will then highlight the musical mastery of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the technical artistry of Italian violinist Alessandro Rolla. And from more recent times, the duo will finish with the lively folk sounds of Bela Bartok and Astor Piazzolla’s passionate tangos.
“The arrangements Wayne and Raquel have prepared present a true musical adventure through the ages, showcasing not only the brilliance of the selected composers, but the virtuosity of violin and viola,” concert organiser, Alexsandra Deen-Wilkinson said.
“Most importantly, the proceeds raised from this one-off afternoon concert help to fund our extended program for the three-day Tyalgum Festival of Classical Music which will celebrate its landmark 21st anniversary this year, from September 7 to 9.”
The fundraising concert on July 29 is part of a full-on weekend of top quality entertainment in the tiny Tweed Valley village of Tyalgum: on Saturday July 28, Tim Draxl – internationally acclaimed singer/actor and star of Australian comedy hit, A Few Best Men – will star at Tyalgum Hall in an all-new cabaret show featuring favourites from the golden era of the Great American Songbook.
“We hope that a lot of people will come to enjoy both shows and stay in Tyalgum for the whole weekend,” said Ms Deen-Wilkinson.
