Monckton Aquatic Centre will be open for the summer season on October 8, 2012, subject to predicted weather conditions.
“Long-range forecasts have been examined and rain events are expected to keep temperatures low, which is not comfortable for swimming,” said Phil Brown, ADC’s Civic and Recreation Services Manager.
“Overnight temperatures are not sufficient to gain optimum use of heat pump systems and therefore water temperatures will be slow to rise to the required levels.
“We are hoping that tem-peratures will rise sufficiently to enable opening on October 8,” said Mr Brown.
Entry fees remain the same as last season; a single admission for adults and children costs $3.50 and, for children three to five years of age, singe entry costs $1.00.
The Centre continues to provide: an eight-lane 50 metre heated competition pool; grandstand; a six-lane 50m heated and part shaded pool; a heated learners’ pool; a heated toddlers’ pool; hot showers; kiosk; function room for hire; BBQ area; swimming squad training; Learn to Swim and Royal Life Saving Society programs; and a basketball/netball area.
The Centre will be open on weekdays from 6am to 7pm and weekends and public holidays from 10am to 7pm, excluding Christmas Day and Good Friday (March 29, 2013).
