Youth choirs

MORE than 100 singers from five to seven-year-olds to grown-up high school students will perform in a three choirs’ concert at the New England Conservatorium Of Music (Mossman Street) on Wednesday 28 August at 6pm. This event is a must for all parents and grandparents. Conductors are Amy Walsh, Rowena Tall and Leanne Roobol.
YOUTHFUL MASTERY
IF you want to hear the best of our youthful musical talent perform, come along on Monday 2 September to the HSC solo recitals by passionate and very experienced singers in the Armidale Town Hall at 6pm; or be enchanted by the Beginner Wind Solo Concert on Tuesday 10 September in the Old Teachers’ College Auditorium at 6pm. ACO2 TOUR
ACO2, the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s precocious little sister, performs in the Armidale Town Hall on 18 September at 7pm. A high octane performance by the next generation of talented young Australian musicians playing Britten, Mozart, Smalley and Part. BRAVERY REVISITED
IN the Town Hall on Friday 20 September, there will be a Commemoration of the Bravery awards presented to members of the Armidale Fire Brigade following the fire which destroyed Braunds Store in May 1932. Two firemen lost their lives. Displays of fire fighting equipment and heritage fire engines to excite the kids – and dads.
NEW LIBRARY FUND-RAISER
THE Armidale Dumaresq and Civic Precinct is presenting the play Armidale – Our Town as part of the city’s sesquicentenary celebrations marking 150 years of local government. The play is also the Precinct’s major fund-raiser for 2013 to build a new library and performing arts centre in the CBD.
Written and directed by Barbara Albury, Armidale – Our Town tells the story of Armidale in a lively and humorous fashion with music and songs by Chris Cunningham and Bob Thomson. Many local actors and singers participating. Five performances will be held on the weekend of Friday 22 to Sunday 24 November. SESQUI CELEBRATIONS
OTHER 150th birthday celebrations include a book launch on the history of Armidale and a dinner on Saturday 16 November in the Town Hall. The Armidale and District Historical Society is creating a large model of the town as it was in 1867.
