Come along to a celebration of colour and life, at a new exhibition, Momentos Capturados!, by Colombian photographer Ana Maria Illera and Armidale artist Alisa Perks, at the Armidale Art Gallery in the Mall, at 6pm, December 8, 2012.
This show promises to give joy to the eye with thought-provoking and beautiful images of
Colombia and of the imagination.
Ana Maria Illera grew up in Barranquilla, on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, the home of the vibrant Colombian carnival, warm climate and natural wonders. This has inspired her passion for capturing moments in everyday life and nature.
“I have always enjoyed taking photos ever since my childhood years. Later when I was studying Social Communication and Journalism at university, I started experimenting with photography, more as a powerful tool to express and convey life and nature without the use of words,” said Ana Maria Illera.
The delicate images by Alisa Perks are painted in gouache, a fine, chalky medium with a luminous quality. Her finely-worked images stem from an imagined version of what she sees. The colour schemes are invented, muted and highly unusual. They are small works containing a world of thought and feeling for the subject, with architecture being a strong theme throughout the collection.
Come and celebrate the opening of this very special exhibition by the well-known Botanical Artist David Mackay. Entry is free and refreshments will be available.
The Armidale Art Gallery is run by the vibrant and supportive New England Art Society, through voluntary effort and the love of art. For enquiries about this exhibition, please phone the Gallery on 6772 9993 or go to www.armidaleartgallery.com.
