A workshop and talk exploring ‘Graphic Realism’ with artist Laurie Mossuto, will be held at NERAM to coincide with the Time Line exhibition on show in the Dobell Gallery now and until July 15, 2012. This exhibition is Mossuto’s visual journey over 50 years, from a childhood in Sydney’s Kings Cross to life at the beach near Arrawarra, NSW.
The artist’s graphic approach to fine art developed during his 30-year career as a graphic designer. For Mossuto, creative visual-isations of commercial products, designs and images once rendered on paper with pen and coloured markers, have evolved into contemporary compositions of shapes, patterns and colours in acrylic and oil paints now brushed onto stretched canvas.
The process of extracting innate shapes, lines, varying facets, colours, light and shade of a subject is something he enjoys.
“Pushing the boundaries of all those elements then melding them back together into a structured, suggestive style, ultimately presents a contemporary image that is certainly minimalist by nature, yet still manages to capture the life and figurative reality of the subject,” said Laurie.
During the workshop, each participant will work on producing their own graphic landscape and gain insight into the key points of Graphic Realism … minimalism, simplicity and suggestion.
Participant numbers are limited to 20. Packsaddle Artist Studio, NERAM on Saturday, June 2, 10am to 4pm — Cost $55.
