Does it rain on the Gold Coast? Of course it does, so why is it the Gold Coast Airport allows it’s travelling public to get totally soaked through attempting to board an aircraft?
This happened to my husband and I on December 8 last year, we were travelling on Jetstar JQ239 from the Gold Coast to New Zealand to spend Christmas with family and friends. It was pouring down with rain that day, to get from the terminal to the aircraft we walked under an overhead canopy. At the end of this covering it was about a 50yrd dash in torrential rain to the aircraft (no umbrellas supplied) being in our 70s this 50 yrd dash was more like a fast shuffle.
We arrived at the top of the uncovered dozen or more steps absolutely drenched through. We complained bitterly to the young hostess, she apologised and went on to inform us that “the Gold Coast airport was the only airport in Australia open to the elements”.
I could see the irony in this information, isn’t it just great to know while you’re standing there dripping wet that all other fellow travellers throughout Australia were arriving at their seats all dry and comfortable?
So there we both sat for the duration of the flight with wet hair and damp clothes, the consequences of which we both ended up with heavy chest colds for the next couple of weeks, not a good start to any holiday.
Thank you for letting me have my say through your paper.
