This time around the ‘Mark No Religion’ campaign is asking you to think carefully before answering the question on your religion.
Many people continue to answer with the religion of their baptism or early youth rather than their present stance which may be ‘No Religion’. This distorts the statistics and potentially affects public policy in matters such as abortion, equality for lesbians and gays, voluntary euthanasia, religious indoctrination in state schools and stem cell research. It is estimated that $30 billion a year remains untaxed due to exemptions for religious organisations of which less than a third is used for charitable purposes.
Please note that this campaign is not aimed at people with a religion but at people with no religion.
