overnight is simply disgusting.
How can he really expect that people who are unemployed and live in areas where there are job openings possibly have any Centrelink payments be cut? He used the example of Orange, an area in which I used to live. Now it is true that for about one month every year there is a massive shortage of workers. It is called the picking season. For 11 months of every year there are simply no jobs available.
Since Mr Abbott used this as an example that in such areas where there is a great need for workers that anyone receiving an unemployment benefit be cut, does this mean he really believes that workers are able to live for 11 months of the year for one month of paid work?
Mr Abbott needs to get off this continual bashing of people who are vulnerable. It might be a populist mantra but the policy he espouses would see thousands of people in regional areas, including ones like our own, where there is seasonal work, forced onto the streets because their wages from one month of the year cannot pay the rent or the food bill for 11 months of the year.
